There are some wedding days that feel especially meaningful because the place itself is already part of a couple’s story.
For Kalvin and Amy, their July elopement took place at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, a place they often enjoy together on walks in their hometown. On a beautiful Friday morning in the Berkshires, they exchanged vows surrounded by timeless architecture, peaceful landscapes, and the soft light of a perfect summer day.
As a Western MA photographer, I love when a couple chooses a location that has personal meaning to them. The Clark was the perfect setting for Kalvin and Amy’s intimate elopement, offering a beautiful combination of classic architecture, open landscapes, and quiet corners for photographs.
A Summer Morning at the Clark Art Institute
We began the morning in front of the Clark’s beautiful white stone building. The architecture immediately gave us so many opportunities for elegant and timeless portraits.
The symmetry of the building created a striking backdrop, while the covered porch offered gorgeous tunnel lighting beneath the pillars. The combination of the soft morning light, strong architectural lines, and quiet atmosphere made this an especially beautiful place to begin their elopement portraits.
As a photographer in the Berkshires, locations like the Clark are such a gift. There is so much visual variety within one place, allowing a couple’s gallery to feel cohesive while still including a wide range of photographs.
We made our way to the beautiful staircase for another set of portraits, using the lines and scale of the architecture to create images that felt both grand and intimate. Between the more posed portraits were all of the little in between moments, the smiles, glances, and excitement that made the morning uniquely theirs.
A Meaningful Berkshires Elopement
Then came the moment that made the day official.
After Kalvin and Amy were married, we continued through the grounds of the Clark and made our way toward the reflective pool. The mood shifted from the elegant architecture of the front of the building to something softer and more natural.
The reflective pool provided beautiful open space and subtle reflections, while the surrounding landscape gave us a completely different backdrop for their newlywed portraits.
This is one of the things I love most about photographing elopements in the Berkshires. A single location can offer so many different environments and moods. With a little exploration, we were able to create a gallery that felt varied without ever needing to leave the place that was meaningful to them.
Chasing the Summer Light
As the morning continued, the sun began sneaking out a little more.
We found a beautiful tree where the sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a warm, glowing atmosphere around Kalvin and Amy. The sun cooperated beautifully throughout their Western Massachusetts elopement, giving us gorgeous natural light without overpowering the soft summer feeling of the morning.
These quieter portraits beneath the tree became some of my favorite moments of the day. After the anticipation of the ceremony, there was a sense of calm. They were married, the morning was unfolding, and they could simply enjoy being together.
The changing light also allowed us to create a wonderful variety of photographs, from dramatic architectural portraits to soft, romantic images surrounded by the landscape.
An Intimate Elopement in the Berkshires
Kalvin and Amy’s elopement was a beautiful reminder that a wedding celebration does not have to be large to feel incredibly significant.
Sometimes the most meaningful wedding days are the ones that feel completely like you. Spending time with the person you love, choosing a place that already holds memories, and creating new ones together.
For Kalvin and Amy, the Clark Art Institute was not simply a beautiful location for their wedding photographs. It was a place they already knew and loved. A place they had walked together before. And now, it became the place where they officially began their marriage.
